Large cloud platforms prepare their answer in assisted coding

The category is worth more than its own market because it decides where code runs.

Two large cloud platforms prepared assisted coding announcements at their conferences in the period, targeting a category where model makers moved first.

The category's value exceeds its direct market. Coding tools are a gateway: whoever chooses where the assistant runs tends to drag along where code executes, is stored and is billed.

Platforms hold a structural advantage in that contest, which is already being inside the company, with a signed contract, integrated corporate identity and consolidated billing. Adding a line to an existing contract is easier than onboarding a new supplier.

Model makers hold another advantage: they control the model and can shape the product around what it does best, without depending on a public interface or a third party's update cycle.

For anyone choosing tools, the competition is good news and the criterion doesn't change: measure completed tasks end to end on the real codebase, including time to install dependencies, run tests and fix.
