Convergence week: prices, models, chips align at new level

The week brought a clear movement: the barriers that protected tech leaders are falling, whether through price or architecture. Google and Amazon attack Nvidia's dominance with tools that run PyTorch on rival chips, while Anthropic and OpenAI converge on the price of their cheapest models. There is no longer a single standard — there is open competition.

On hardware, the change is foundational. GM revamps OnStar with embedded AI, and Apple restricts full disk access on macOS, responding to risks from AI agents. These are structural decisions that acknowledge software now defines hardware. In the same vein, FLUX 3 releases weights for small businesses, and Amazon Bee popularizes personal AI. The rule of thumb for this edition: when technology becomes a commodity, those who adapt to openness win — those who insist on closing lose the next decade.
