Black Forest Labs releases FLUX 3 weights for free small-business use

Black Forest Labs has released the weights of its FLUX 3 Image Klein model under a commercial license that exempts companies with annual revenue under US$ 5 million. The news was reported by VentureBeat. Larger organizations must enter a self-hosting agreement or access the model via API for commercial use.

The license, called the FLUX Kommunity License, determines eligibility based on combined annual gross revenue with affiliates. It also imposes conditions on output review or filtering and on redistribution of the model. Black Forest Labs previously published a similar license for FLUX 3 Action.

Opening the weights lets technical teams deploy the model locally without depending on external APIs. For small businesses, this eliminates per-API-call costs and gives full control over processed data -- a key factor for applications handling sensitive or proprietary information.

For production systems, the news offers a viable alternative to reduce costs for AI image generation, especially in high-volume scenarios. The publication believes that revenue-segmented licensing could become a common business model, and that IT teams should weigh whether local operation costs offset savings compared with third-party APIs.
