Corporate assistants ship with three vendors supported from day one

Not tying a product to one model became a market standard.

Corporate assistants ship with three vendors supported from day one

Corporate products launched in the period arrived supporting models from three different vendors on day one, a choice repeated across separate announcements.

Not tying a product to a single model stopped being a differentiator and became a requirement. The reason is commercial before technical: corporate customers learned across the semester that a supplier can become unavailable by external decision, change price or be delayed.

For product builders, supporting several models costs real work. Each vendor has interface quirks, response format differences and distinct behaviour in ambiguous cases, and keeping parity between them is continuous maintenance.

What's gained in exchange is negotiating power and continuity. A system that switches models by configuration doesn't halt when a supplier goes offline, which is exactly the scenario that materialised the same month.

It's the principle hardware calls second sourcing, applied to software: keeping a qualified alternative costs a little day to day and prevents a stoppage when the preferred one fails.
