This was a week about foundations: a ten-billion-dollar cloud contract, foundries racing over who will own the connection between chips, manufacturers switching memory suppliers to keep the line moving. Big numbers, all of them real, none of them visible to the person using the system at the far end.
The customer asking for a meeting summary doesn't know what co-packaged optics are, or where the memory in their laptop came from. They know one thing: the answer arrived, or it didn't. It can cost ten billion or forty dollars a month. If it doesn't work, they don't come back.
That doesn't diminish infrastructure, it places it. The question that organises a small operation is the same one that organises a large one, minus the budget to be wrong in public: when the preferred supplier fails to deliver, is there a plan B someone has actually tested? A fallback chain, a spending ceiling written into the code, routing between models. Not for elegance. Because the system has to stay up when someone on the other side changes the price without warning.
